Bristol-based singer/musician/producer Chaouche's third single 'So What' is set to be released on 1st December 2017. 'So What' is a haunting, dreamlike song about the inevitable passing of time and changes in life, Chaouche's reassuring reading accepting this bluntly as: "so what?". The delicately balanced production - reversed pianos, deployed passages of programmed beats and reverbed choirs - mirrors the sentiment with confident restraint.
Chaouche's last single 'I' was chosen by Lauren Laverne as her Headphones Moment on BBC 6 Music, the presenter saying she'd "had the song on a loop all week". Chaouche's debut release 'I'll Lose My Head' b/w 'My Friend' was described as “heartbreaking and spine tingling hymns” by Wonderland Magazine, “channelling the hymnal qualities of Cat’s Eyes with the dense vocals of Medúlla-era Björk” by The Line of Best Fit and a “songwriter of real strength and subtlety” by Clash. Bristol Live Magazine has hailed her "the city’s most exciting new act".
Aisha Chaouche spent her childhood growing up in Swansea before moving to Bristol where she studied at BIMM music college. Chaouche lists Bjork, Sufjan Stevens and Rufus Wainwright amongst her influences and is also heavily inspired by film composers such as Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman. The piano features prominently in her music and is bolstered by deftly applied production of electronic and acoustic sounds and effects, her own massed harmonies, cello and violin.
“The overarching theme of my songs is “healing". Collectively my songs contribute to a greater understanding of particular issues I found overbearing and traumatising as a child and young adult. Each song is dedicated to a memory or experience that has come from a negative source that’s ultimately been turned into a strength."
'So What' will appear on Chaouche's still to be titled debut album, which is nearing completion and is currently set for release in spring 2018. Her live band has been rehearsing over the summer, with live gigs planned soon.
